My Remedies for Dry Cough

As you may have already known, dry cough can be an indication of certain health problems and to be able to treat it, the root cause should be treated first. However, you can also try some home remedies for dry cough to relieve the condition.

  • Salt Water Gargling: this is considered as the best and most natural remedy against dry cough. Simply boil two glasses of water and add two tablespoons of salt into it. Allow the solution to cool down until it is lukewarm and gargle it. Repeat the procedure at least three times a day to relieve dry cough.
  • Myrrh Remedy: this is another effective gargling remedy for dry cough. Myrrh has natural antimicrobial properties that can soothe aching muscles and provides relief as an expectorant. You can create a solution by adding half teaspoon of myrrh to two cups of lukewarm water. You can garget this solution and swallow it 3 to 4 times a day.
  • Honey and Pepper: honey is popularly known for its natural antibiotic properties. Mixing honey and pepper can make an effective remedy against dry cough. In a bowl, add one tablespoon of honey and a pinch of red pepper. Mix both ingredients properly then slowly lick the mixture to relieve dry cough.
  • Vitamin C: as much as possible, make sure that your diet is loaded with vitamin C to enhance your body’s immune system. You can get vitamin C through supplements or certain foods that are packed with vitamin C like citrus fruits.
  • Drink Plenty of Water: in case your cough condition is due to dehydration, you can treat this by consuming sufficient amount of water daily. Water can help keep your throat moist, thus preventing dry cough.
  • Humidifier: if your cough problem is due to dry air, you can opt for a humidifier for remedy. However, make sure that you use distilled water on your humidifier and keep it free from dust. This can provide you with moist air that can help you prevent dry cough.
  • Steam Therapy: opting for a steam therapy is one of the most effective home remedies for this condition. This can help keep your throat and nose moist. For this, simply boil water and pour it in a bowl or basin. Cover your head with a towel or a blanket to prevent the steam from escaping. Inhale the steam for several minutes or until the water has cooled down.
